Why Margaret entered public life
Vancouver-Fairview is a special riding. It's the heart of Vancouver, home to families and British Columbians from all walks of life. It has a dynamic small business community and residents who share a sense of pride in the place they call home.

Like all British Columbians, Fairview residents want a strong, vibrant economy—the kind of economy that provides opportunities for the future and the resources needed for meaningful government programs. A strong economy provides for the programs we need: a strong, accessible healthcare system, a clean environment and support for our most vulnerable citizens.

Margaret’s work at the BC Medical Association (which represents BC’s doctors) gave her hands on experience of the importance and scope of the work of BC’s provincial government. Making an impact on public policy decisions beyond their impact on the health care system alone is why she decided to seek public office as the MLA for Vancouver-Fairview.

As BCMA President, Margaret was a tireless advocate for patients, health policy and health-promotion issues and she worked closely with key leaders from government and other organizations. She has built her career working for consensus and finding solutions.

Margaret prides herself in her ability to bring together groups with similar goals and desires, and help them to find unity of purpose, instead of working in isolation. This is the leadership Margaret provides as the BC Liberal MLA for Vancouver-Fairview.
